What is your current research and what do you find exciting about it?

I recently joined my dissertation lab at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill in Dr. Henrik Dohlman’s lab. I will be studying the role of the All-Helical Domain in G proteins and how mutations in this domain lead to epilepsy and movement disorders. Being able to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying diseases to positively impact human health and improve patient outcomes is what I find most exciting about my research.

How did your GVSU Chemistry/Biochemistry degree help you prepare you for your graduate work?

GVSU was monumental in preparing me for graduate school. A majority of the laboratory and presentation skills I obtained at GVSU translated to my current lab work and presenting in lab meetings.
